Re:designing the public sector

Lydia Houghton's Idea

My current experience...

After giving birth to my daughter by emergency cesarean, I was bed-ridden for three days. During this time I had to feed myself and breastfeed my newborn baby whilst dealing with yucky nappies, filthy sanitary towels and a leaky six inch scar. Not once did anyone ask if I would like to wash my hands. I did ask the nurses a couple of times ~ but nobody ever got back to me. The staff at the hospital were lovely and for the most part my experience was good, but the nurses were far too busy to deal with everyone's requests. The superbug scandal in the NHS does not surprise me at all.

Wouldn't it be better if...

All bed-ridden patients supplied with antibacterial gel and basic hand washing facilities at their bedsides.
